François Chaignaud

François Chaignaud (born 1983 In Rennes, France) is a choreographer based in Paris. He graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSM) in Paris (2002). Since 2003, he has danced with, among others, Boris Chamartz, Emmanuelle Huynh, Gilles Jobin, Tiago Guedes, Dominique Brun, Grands Magasins, and Alain Buffard. He offers performances and concerts in various venues, at the crossroads of various inspirations – erotica (Aussi Bien Que Ton Cœur Ouvre Moi Les Genoux, 2008); operetta, including hula hoop (Duchesses, 2009, created with Marie-Caroline Hominal). He premiered in July 2013 ДУМИ МОЇ – DUMY MOYI, a solo that investigates different sources of modern dances (from rituals, to music hall and fashion). He has initiated several collaborations, especially with San Francisco legendary drag queen Rumi Missabu, and cabaret artist Jérôme Marin (Sous L’Ombrelle, 2011). In 2012, he was involved in the creation of Sacre # 197 by Dominique Brun.
Since 2005, he collaborates with Cecilia Bengolea, creating numerous works : Paquerette, 2005-2008, Sylphides, 2009, Castor and Pollux, 2010, Danses Libres 2010 (with choreographies from François Malkovsky and Suzanne Bodak), (M)imosa (co-created with Trajal Harrell and Marlene Monteiro Freitas), Altered Natives Say Yes To Another Excess TWERK, 2012. This long term collaboration earned them the Paris critique choreographic revelation award (2009).
Besides his work as a choreographer, he has published a book about french early feminism L’Affaire Berger-Levrault: le féminisme à l’épreuve (1898–1905).
