Dr. Ronald Mennickent (Chile) works in investigations that focus on the comprehension of stellar variability in different stages of their evolution. He works with optical infrared spectroscopy and with images obtained in the huge telescopes in the north of Chile. His area of studies include binary stars, transference and lose of mass, and star disk growth. Has worked in different FONDECYT projects, and has directed projects about teaching astronomy. Mennickent was the first astronomer graduated in Chile, who gained his doctorate degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 1995. He started working at Universidad de Concepción in 1994.
