Gaspar Galaz


Gaspar Galaz (Chile) is a researcher and academic from the Astrophysics Institute of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Physics and a Master in Astronomy from Universidad de Chile. He got his doctorate degree in Astrophysics and Spatial Techniques from Paris University. His work in extragalactic astronomy lead him apply to a post-doctorate position at Carnegie Institution for Science in Pasadena, California, and also as an astronomer at Las Campanas Observatory, between 1998 and 2001. Due to the advanced optical and sub-millimetric telescopes at the north of Chile, he has been able to investigate the universe’s structure at high scale, the galaxies’ evolution and properties, and even the formation of stars within them. He also stands out as a scientific broadcaster in written medium, radio, television and cinema. His other passion is looking the Earth from the sky as a private aircraft pilot.
